Universities are a cradle of technological innovation. In Chongqing, with the continuous strengthening of the talent pool in higher education, more and more technological achievements are emerging from the "ivory tower" and rapidly transforming into new productive forces.
Not long ago, the "Magnetorheological Smart Suspension System," led by a research team from Chongqing University, was successfully developed and industrialized in the Bishan District of the Western (Chongqing) Science City. This system can control the "magnetorheological fluid" through a magnetic field, switching between solid and liquid states to achieve varying levels of shock absorption for vehicles. Additionally, it can intelligently identify road conditions and arrange corresponding damping modes.
Professor Yu Miao from Chongqing University said: "This technology can not only be used in the intelligent suspension of vehicles, but also has great applications in optical platform damping, braking, as well as in the flexible joints of robots."
Similarly, the research team at Southwest University has launched the "Aquatic Disease Automatic Detection System" for technology transfer in higher education. This system is about the size of a standard drinking water dispenser and serves as a mobile pathogen detection laboratory, providing quick and accurate test results.
Associate Professor Chen Jie from the National Key Laboratory of Efficient Breeding and Utilization of Resource Insects at Southwest University stated that the shift has been achieved from traditional detection, which required operation by professionals at specialized testing institutions, to on-site self-testing by farmers, with the detection time reduced from half a day to 1 hour.
The Municipal Science and Technology Bureau stated that as of now, our city has established six university innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems, including Chongqing University and Southwest University, and the entrepreneurial incubators around these universities are continuously under construction. Meanwhile, relying on 28 higher education institutions, the Western (Chongqing) Science City is consolidating and enhancing its capabilities in basic research and talent cultivation, striving to build a source of technological innovation achievements and a transformation hub.
Zhou Yan, director of the Technology Innovation Center of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, stated that it is necessary to further deepen the reform of systems and mechanisms, strengthen policy guidance for integration of industry and education, build a number of high-quality technology research and development and achievement transformation platforms between universities and localities, improve the precision of talent policy alignment between schools and localities, optimize the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem, accelerate the establishment of a "science, education, industry, city, and people" integrated development system, and promote the integrated development of education, technology, and talent.
